Now that the IDF has declared that six hostages’ bodies—among them the Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin—have been found in Rafah, focus is on the hostages who are still alive in Gaza. It’s possible that many Americans are unaware that Hamas is now holding four American captives in the Gaza Strip. The government of US President Joe Biden hasn’t given this matter much thought; it hasn’t said anything about the hostages that Hamas is holding captive in Gaza who hold dual US and Israeli citizenship.
It’s possible that Americans are unaware that Hamas is now holding four American captives in the Gaza Strip. The government of US President Joe Biden hasn’t given this matter much thought; it hasn’t said anything about the hostages that Hamas is holding captive in Gaza who hold dual US and Israeli citizenship. Among these was Biden’s early Sunday morning declaration that he was “devastated and outraged” by Goldberg-Polin’s passing. Goldberg-Polin was one of the eight American captives taken by Hamas in the killings that occurred in southern Israel on October 7. Now that Hersh’s death has been verified, the IDF has confirmed that Hamas killed four of the eight.

In a video that Hamas posted, 64-year-old Keith Siegel was pictured with hostage Omri Miran. Miran made reference to the recent Passover holiday in the video, suggesting that it was released shortly after it was shot. Keith and his spouse Aviva were kidnapped from their Kfar Aza residence. After being taken into the Gaza Strip in their own car, the couple was held together until Aviva was freed as part of the hostage release agreement in November. After her release, Aviva said that her husband had kept his US citizenship a secret from Hamas out of concern that the organization might free him without her.
Sagui Dekel-Chen oversaw projects for the Jewish National Fund’s (Keren Kayemet Le’Israel) UK office, which plans building projects for youth centers and schools. On October 7, Dekel-Chen was kidnapped from his Kibbutz Nir Oz residence. He was fighting Hamas militants as part of the kibbutz security force before being apprehended many hours later. Last month, during a J Street event held in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention (DNC), his father Jonathan made a demand on Democratic leaders to make Hamas responsible for its deeds.
born on Long Island On October 7, Omer Neutra was kidnapped by terrorists when he was serving in the IDF as a tank commander. Since then, Omer’s parents, Ronen and Orna Neutra, have taken an active role in bringing attention to both his and the other detainees’ plights. Omer’s parents, like the parents of Goldberg-Polin, delivered a statement to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and the Republican National Convention (RNC) urging both parties to cooperate in securing the release of all prisoners. Neutra served as an inspiration for two recent decisions made by his close friend and cousin to emigrate to Israel and enlist in the IDF.
Similar to Omer, Edan Alexander was apprehended on October 7 while serving in the IDF. That morning, just after the start of the rocket assaults from Gaza, Alexander talked on the phone with his parents. He gave his mother his word that he was okay. It took her about thirty minutes to get through to him. On October 7, Omer and Edan were posted to the same location in southern Israel. They would be among the final set of hostages freed in a hostage agreement since Hamas views soldiers as more useful in negotiations.
Edan Alexander, like Omer, was captured on October 7 when he was in the IDF. Alexander spoke with his parents over the phone that morning, shortly after the Gaza rocket attacks began. He assured his mother that everything would be alright. She had to spend roughly thirty minutes contacting him. Omer and Edan were assigned to the same place in southern Israel on October 7. Given that Hamas believes that soldiers are more useful in negotiations, they would be among the last captives to be released in a hostage agreement.
According to Friednash, eight Americans were captured and 33 Americans lost their lives in the October 7 Hamas killings. Of those eight, four are now officially deceased. He mentioned the lack of media attention to the hostages’ plight or the US government’s attempts to liberate them, and that the majority of Americans probably couldn’t even name one of the American hostages. Furthermore, we must ask ourselves why these five Americans—now reduced to four following Hersh Goldberg-Polin’s passing—are being forgotten. Do they have dual citizenship or are they Jewish? Is it because the leaders of our country think that Israel, not us, is mostly to blame for this? Or, is there another political motive?” he penned. Almost a month later, none of those inquiries seem to have been addressed.
Ninety-seven of the 251 hostages that Hamas kidnapped on October 7 are still being held captive in Gaza as a result of the captives’ bodies returning. At least 33 hostages’ remains that the Israel Defense Forces have already verified as dead are included in this most recent total. Pray for the remaining hostages, please.
