Australia dropped to ninth in the World Rugby Men’s Rankings after losing 67-27 to Argentina in round four of The Rugby Championship. It was the most points conceded by the Wallabies in test rugby history, as well as their second heaviest defeat ever, coming just short of the record of 45 points established in 2008 when they were thrashed 53-8 by South Africa. Los Pumas scored nine tries, seven of which came in the second half, where they scored 50 points. This came after Australia had opened up a 20-3 advantage. Australia has had 0.92 points deducted from their rating as a result of the loss, and their new total of 79.78 points takes them below Italy into ninth place.

Argentina, meanwhile, received an identical number of points in return, resulting in a new enhanced rating of 82.49 points. Los Pumas are presently only a third of a point behind sixth-place Scotland. South Africa won the first of Saturday’s Rugby Championship games 18-12 in Cape Town, completing the double over New Zealand. With two rounds of the Rugby Championship to go, the Springboks’ lead over Ireland at the top of the rankings has grown to 1.46 points, while the All Blacks remain third but with a lower rating of 88.25.
