Bukayo Saka believes this is the year Arsenal finally defeats Manchester City for the Premier League title. Arsenal’s confidence soared again on Tuesday night following an excellent Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal led 2-0 before halftime thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Saka, and despite having more possession, PSG were unable to come back into the game.
Manager Mikel Arteta will return his emphasis to the Premier League ahead of Southampton’s visit to the Emirates Stadium this weekend. And his men will be motivated by revenge after nearly losing the title to City in each of the previous two seasons.
Following Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over PSG, Arsenal great Thierry Henry pressed Saka on whether this is the year Arsenal finally wins the title. With a puff of the cheeks, the 23-year-old told CBS Sports: “I don’t want to put too much pressure on us, but I believe this is our year. We’ve been close over the last two years, and we’re getting closer, but perhaps this is the year.”
The most recent of Arsenal’s 13 league trophies wasArsenal have yet to lose a game in 2023/24, and their 14 points from a potential 18 places them third, level with City but one point behind table-toppers Liverpool.
When asked about Saka’s championship claim, Arteta responded after the PSG win: “The players believe we are on the right track, and they trust what we do. It’s a terrific sign, and tonight should be a very joyous night because we played one of the top teams in the world. To be able to compete and win in the style we did is a really good indicator for the team.”
