ISTANBUL The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that Russia will take action in reaction to the building of a US missile facility in Poland. “Of course, this (step) leads to the adoption of appropriate measures to ensure parity,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists in Moscow. On Tuesday, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced in a video broadcast by his ministry on X that a US missile defence site will open in the village of Redzikowo near the Baltic coast in northern Poland on November 13. According to Sikorski, the effort to establish such a facility began during George W. Bush’s presidency, and its completion demonstrates the “geostrategic consistency of the United States.”

However, Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin had opposed the concept as early as the 2000s. The official stated that the purpose of establishing such a station is to “militarily contain” Russia’s capability.
