Since INEOS’s involvement at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson has been removed from his £2 million-a-year ambassadorial role, many long-serving employees have been laid off as part of a redundancy programme, and rumours suggest the Red Devils are considering reducing their £40,000-a-year payment to the Manchester United Disabled Supporters Association.

There were also protests ahead of Sunday’s 4-0 Premier League victory against Everton over the hike in matchday ticket pricing.

Ratcliffe clearly wants to create some financial wiggle room at Manchester United, possibly so that he can assist Ruben Amorim in building a competitive squad without violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

In 2025, however, TBR Football understands Manchester United might get millions without doing anything, thanks to Mason Greenwood.

Manchester United’s sell-on clause may pay handsomely, as Barcelona and Real Madrid want Mason Greenwood According to sources, Barcelona and Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Marseille’s No.10 following his impressive start in France. Marseille signed the Bradford native in July 2024 for £26.6 million from Manchester United, after spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Getafe.

Greenwood has now scored nine goals in just 13 Ligue 1 appearances this season, while also assisting twice, a form that has piqued the interest of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

TBR Football understands that the Spanish trio were first intrigued by the 23-year-old’s efforts at Getafe, where he scored ten goals and assisted six more in 36 appearances, and that their admiration has not faded. There was interest last summer, but each side had different objectives to address.

Since INEOS became involved at Old Trafford, we have seen Sir Alex Ferguson removed from his £2 million-a-year ambassadorial role, many long-serving staff members dismissed as part of a redundancy program, and rumours state the Red Devils are also thinking about cutting some of the £40,000-a-year payment .

However, TBR Football understand it is worth around 50% – which could secure INEOS a small fortune and alleviate the need for Ratcliffe to undergo any further cost cutting procedures.

It could also help Amorim, who has transformed warm-ups at Manchester United, bring in some of his own players.

If Greenwood maintains his impressive form, he could well be worth £50m next summer, which – if a move materialised for that amount – would net Manchester United roughly £25m, to provide an example of just how lucrative that clause could prove to be in the coming months
