At least eight people were killed in an Israeli attack on a school for displaced Palestinians in northern Gaza, as Israel dispatched several senior officials to discuss a possible ceasefire. According to the Palestinian Civil Emergency Service, an Israeli attack on Saturday killed eight civilians, including two women and two children, at the Zainab al-Wazir school in northern Gaza’s Jabalia al-Balad neighbour

sile. I’m not sure where our children are. I don’t know anything about them, whether they were injured or killed.” Al Jazeera’s Moath al-Kahlout described the conditions at al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, where scores of the wounded were transported, as “bloody” and “dire,” citing a lack of medical supplies as a result of Israel’s continuous siege of northern Gaza, which has lasted more than 80 days. Later on Saturday, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported strikes on several areas in Gaza, including an attack on a house in Gaza City’s Daraj neighbourhood that killed four Palestinians and injured numerous others.

Israeli fighter jets also targeted a tent sheltering displaced families in Deir el-Balah, which is located in the middle of the enclave, killing three people, according to Wafa.

Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s incoming special envoy to the Middle East, flew to Qatar earlier this week. According to Egyptian security sources quoted by Reuters, Witkoff assured Egyptian and Qatari mediators that the US will continue to strive toward a fair deal to end the fighting shortly.

According to Netanyahu’s office, the head of Israel’s Mossad spy service will travel to Qatar to “advance” talks. “There are a lot of moving parts here,” said Hamdah Salhut of Al Jazeera, reporting from Amman, Jordan. “Donald Trump stated that he would aggressively seek a ceasefire if one did not occur before assuming office. But you have to understand that there are hard areas on both sides,” she continued. “The Israelis maintain they will not end the war, while Hamas claims they seek a complete cease-fire that ends the war and withdraws Israeli troops.

“And you also have the Israeli public, which is constantly demonstrating against Benjamin Netanyahu, against the Israeli government, saying that he’s neither capable nor willing to make a deal fifteen months into this war,” she continued.

Families of Israeli prisoners applauded Netanyahu’s decision to dispatch the officials, which the Hostages and Missing Families Forum Headquarters described as a “historic opportunity”. ‘It is impossible to stay alive.’ As mediators prepare for more ceasefire talks, Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reported that Palestinians under attack in Gaza were also facing severe food shortages, as Israel continued to ignore United Nations demands to lift its restrictions on supplies entering the Strip. “We’re seeing children with empty pots every single day searching for community kitchens, talking with families saying they are barely able to feed their children one meal per day,” Khoudary, reporting from Deir el-B “It’s not only the continuous air strikes, but also malnutrition is killing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip,” she pointed out.

According to Vibe Klarup, head of Amnesty Denmark, Israel is committing “genocide” based on a detailed legal study. She stated this during the European Palestinian Network conference in Copenhagen.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult to survive in the Gaza Strip… “Our role as people is to stop the genocide,” she said. According to Palestinian health authorities, Israel’s attack on Gaza has claimed the lives of at least 46,537 individuals since October 7, 2023.
