One suspect was pronounced dead at the spot, while the second died after being brought to the hospital by EMS. A child fatally shot two armed house intruders over the weekend, according to the Kentucky State Police. State police said they received a report just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday about a shooting in Manchester, which is approximately 170 miles southeast of Louisville.
I hope the child does not experience any shame or pain. They received what they deserved. Manchester police arrived to the area and discovered two people who had been shot, according to state police. Manchester police then requested the assistance of state police in investigating the shooting.
Arriving troopers established that the two individuals found shot had forced their way into a home with the goal of taking firearms from a safe, state police said. During the break-in, a juvenile resident of the home spotted the invaders clutching firearms, according to state police. The adolescent, acting in self-defense, grabbed a revolver and shot both males before fleeing via a bedroom window, according to state police. The two men who were shot subsequently were identified as Jeffrey M. Allen, 51, and Roger D. Smith, 44, according to state police. Allen, of Manchester, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police, who also reported that Smith, of McKee, was taken to Advent Health Manchester but died.
How have people reacted? Commenters on the state police Facebook post complimented the juvenile but expressed concern about how the young person will deal with the fatal gunshots in the future. “I hope the kid doesn’t feel guilty or traumatized,” one commenter remarked. “They got what they deserved.” “A very bold juvenile. Another user remarked, “Quick thinking as well.” “I hope the juvenile has an excellent support system. “I’m sending prayers.” “Teach [your] kids to defend themselves,” another poster said. “Great job.” “Prayers for the juvenile,” another individual requested. “God bless that young man,” another commenter said, assuming the kid is male. “He’ll need some assistance, IMO, dealing with the mental/emotional aspects of the recollection of it all. He had every right to defend himself and the home, but still, emotions will come out. I hope he’s doing okay.”
