Chelsea officials are confident that one Premier League player will opt to join the club this year, and it is thought they spoke with his representatives during the January transfer window.
Chelsea prepare for Brighton in their first game after the transfer window. The west Londoners head south on Saturday for an FA Cup fourth-round match against Brighton at the Amex Stadium, with Enzo Maresca hoping to keep Chelsea’s strong start to 2025 going.
The game gives an excellent opportunity for Maresca to give minutes to periphery players, with Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku possibly set to start against Brighton after playing half an hour against West Ham on deadline day.
However, the same cannot be said of injured sensation Roméo Lavia, who has a “long way to go” before returning to the pitch, according to Maresca.
Chelsea’s match against Fabian Hurzeler’s side may even provide Mathis Amougou the opportunity to make his complete debut for the west Londoners, having joined from Saint-Étienne for £12 million on the final day of the winter transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old will play as a senior this season before joining Strasbourg on loan for the 2025/2026 season.
