Breece Hall’s future with the New York Jets appears to be as murky as it ever has been. With recent reports of a backfield by committee for the Jets, and speculation surrounding the draft of Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Hall could be used by the Jets as a trade chip to acquire draft capital or fill other positional needs. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay examined potential trade packages for the Jets to move Hall, one of which has Hall heading to our nation’s cap.

The proposed package for Hall would include a fourth-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft (No. 128 overall) and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey. “McCaffrey had an uninspiring rookie season, appearing in all 17 games but catching just 18 passes for 168 yards and zero touchdowns. However, he still has potential to develop into a serviceable NFL receiver. The third-round pick may not ever develop into a superstar like his brother Christian, but he still has plenty of potential for the Jets to tap into.” Kay wrote.

In 2023, McCaffrey led the American with 13 touchdowns and 992 yards on 71 receptions in his fifth season of college football. He appeared in all 17 games for the Commanders, starting four, and hauled in 18 catches for 168 yards but failed to find the end zone.

While giving up on McCaffrey after one season wouldn’t be ideal, Washington shouldn’t pass on the opportunity to get a young player who fills a position of clear need on the roster. The Commanders are currently set to head into 2025 with an aging Austin Ekeler and journeyman Jeremy McNichols as the only running back depth behind starter Brian Robinson Jr.” Added Kay. “Hall would round out a Commanders offense that ranked No. 7 in the league last year in total yards but saw Daniels lead the team in rushing yardage and didn’t have a single running back go over the 800-yard mark. Hall could immediately slot in as Washington’s RB1 while forming one of the NFL’s best one-two combinations alongside Robinson.” .

What’s our argument? There have already been whispers that Washington plans to trade Robinson. But without that, if Hall comes in as a backup, we’re not sure what the objective of the move is from a DC standpoint.
