The four people who died in the shooting at a high school in Georgia on Wednesday morning—a student opened fire inside the building—have been recognised by the authorities. According to Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), two teachers and two students, both 14 years old, died in the incident. Hosey named Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14 years old, as the two pupils that died at Apalachee High School. Hosey said that Christina Irmie and Richard Aspinwall, two math teachers, also perished in the incident. According to Channel2Now, Schermerhorn, an autistic student, was thought to have wandered out of the school after it was dismissed.

Authorities have identified the four victims of the shooting at a Georgia high school on Wednesday morning, in which a student opened fire inside the structure. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) director, Chris Hosey, reports that the tragedy claimed the lives of two teachers and two 14-year-old students. Hosey identified the two students who passed away at Apalachee High School as 14-year-olds Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn. Hosey added that two math professors, Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irmie, also died in the incident. Schermerhorn, an autistic student, was reportedly believed to have wandered out of the school after it was dismissed, according to Channel2Now.

According to Hosey, a weapon akin to an AR platform was used in the incident. “As a follow to the Joint Statement just released, the subject referred to as the 13-year-old is the same subject in custody related to today’s shootings at Apalachee High School,” the FBI said. There are still questions about whether anyone was singled out for particular attention, but as of right now, there is no established link between Grey and the victims. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, “Within minutes, law enforcement was on scene as well as two school resource officers assigned here to the school.” According to Smith, Grey will face charges of murder and be tried as an adult.

Authorities stated that there is no proof that another shooter participated in the incident, and that detectives are aggressively looking for information from any possible associates of the shooter.

In a joint statement, the FBI’s Atlanta field office and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced that an anonymous report about threats made online about a potential school shooting in May 2023 was forwarded to the agency’s National Threat Operations Centre. The authorities claimed that pictures of weaponry were included in the threats. Investigators discovered the threats originated in Georgia within 24 hours after receiving the anonymous information, and they forwarded the case to the sheriff’s office. “The Jackson County Sheriffs’ Office located a possible subject, a 13-year-old male, and interviewed him and his father,” the FBI said. “The father stated he had hunting guns in the house, but the subject did not have unsupervised access to them.” Authorities informed nearby schools after the child, according to the agencies, denied making the threats.

When the shooting started, there were three school resource officers present at the school. According to authorities, they were able to speak with the gunman, who quickly surrendered. The Barrow County Sheriff reports that they do not currently anticipate any additional fatalities and that the surviving shooting victims will likely recover.
