Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced the plan, according to Israeli media. “We proposed a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip for two days to exchange four (Israeli) hostages for some (Palestinian) prisoners, and then negotiations would take place over 10 days to turn the cease-fire into a permanent truce,”
Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, the Israeli army has continued its deadly attack on the Gaza Strip since Hamas’ cross-border incursion last October. According to local health authorities, about 43,000 people have been murdered, the majority of them are women and children, and more than 100,000 have been injured. The Israeli assault has displaced nearly the entire population of the region, and a prolonged blockade has resulted in serious shortages of food, clean water, and medication. Israel is also facing a genocide complaint at the International Court of Justice over its activities in Gaza.
