US Vice President Kamala Harris attended a star-studded rally on Thursday, organised by talk show host Oprah Winfrey, as early in-person voting began in several states ahead of the November general election. Jennifer Lopez, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Rock, and Ben Stiller supported Harris remotely at the “Unite for America” event. What exactly did Kamala tell Oprah? Winfrey questioned Harris on an apparent boost in confidence after she replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee. “We all have times in our lives when we need to step up,” the 59-year-old Harris responded. “I felt a sense of responsibility, to be honest with you, and with that comes a sense of purpose.”

“I want to bring my daughters to the White House to meet this Black woman president,” he told reporters. Bryan Cranston, widely known for his role as Walter White in the television series “Breaking Bad,” said he had not felt so optimistic in a long time. “I’m just so appreciative of Kamala to be able to bring back that sense of optimism and to squish the cynicism and the vitriol and the rancour that just seems to be floating all around Washington.”

With only 47 days till election day, Harris and former US President Donald Trump are vying for votes in critical swing states. Harris received a boost from a York Times/Siena survey that showed her far up in Pennsylvania, which is likely the most important of the makeweight states, with a sizable number of college votes. Early in-person voting for the 2024 US presidential election began on Friday in Virginia, South Dakota, and Minnesota, which is home to Harris’ running partner, Governor Tim Walz. These votes come little over six weeks before Election Day on November 5. A dozen more states are expected to implement early in-person voting by mid-October.Meanwhile, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump suggested on Thursday that Jewish-American voters would bear some of the blame if he lost the election. In remarks at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in Washington, Trump criticised a survey showing him lagging Harris among American Jews. “If I don’t win this election — and the Jewish people would really have a lot to do with that if that happens because if 40%, I mean, 60% of the people are voting for the enemy — Israel, in my opinion, will cease to exist within two years,” said Donald Trump to the crowd.
