A significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria as a narcotics warehouse supplying Boko Haram terrorists has been busted. Authorities have confiscated a staggering 2.5 tonnes of illicit drugs in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

Naija Global News has learned that a joint team comprising military personnel and operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) discovered the Konduga Local Government Area on Monday.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops stormed the warehouse. They seized 2.5 tonnes of illicit substances known locally as “goom” or “akuskura,” which were intended for shipment to terrorists in the notorious Sambisa forest.
On Tuesday, a security analyst and counterinsurgency expert in the Lake Chad basin, Zagazola Makama, shared the raid details on his X handle.
Makama stated, “A joint operation between the troops of the 21 Armored Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a large consignment of illicit substances destined for Boko Haram terrorists in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.”
This statement underscores the collaboration between the military and NDLEA, highlighting their joint efforts in combating the drug supply to terrorist groups.

“Intelligence sources informed me that, acting on this intelligence, the joint team launched a swift and decisive operation to disrupt the supply of illicit substances to the terrorist groups.”
Makama’s insights emphasize the crucial role of intelligence in the operation, showcasing the importance of timely and accurate information in disrupting terrorist activities.
“The operation, which was carried out following a tip-off, resulted in the recovery of 163 bags of the substance, equivalent to 2.5 tonnes, in a warehouse in Konduga.”
Here, Makama details the success of the operation, quantifying the substantial amount of illicit drugs seized, which is a significant blow to the terrorists’ supply chain.
“The suspected illicit substances, known as ‘Goom’ or ‘Akusukura,’ are deadly psychoactive substances that represent a serious threat to public health and pose a challenge for drug policy.”
This analysis highlights the dangerous nature of the confiscated substances and the broader implications for public health and drug policy.
“The substance, which comes in different varieties, is used in both liquid and powdered form by people who mostly seek to raise their levels of psychological or nervous activity in the body, or, put simply, get high.”
This explanation provides insight into the usage and effects of the substances, shedding light on why they are sought after despite their dangers.
“The recovered items were handed over to the NDLEA team leader, and the military cordoned off the area.”
This statement illustrates the procedural aspects of the operation, including the secure handover of the seized drugs and the military’s role in ensuring the area’s security.
“The operation highlights the effectiveness of interagency collaboration and the commitment of the military and NDLEA to keeping Nigeria safe.”
This final analysis reinforces the success of the operation and the crucial role of cooperation between different agencies in enhancing national security.
