The strikes, which occurred on September 17 and 18, targeted thousands of handheld pagers and hundreds of walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon and Syria. “The pager operation and the elimination of (Hezbollah leader Hassan) Nasrallah were carried out despite the opposition of senior officials in the defence establishment and those responsible for them in the political echelon,” Netanyahu reportedly said during a weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, in a not-so-subtle dig at IDF and intelligence chiefs, as well as his recently fired defence minister, Yoav Gallant. Last week, Netanyahu removed defence minister Yoav Gallant, alleging a lack of trust, and replaced him with Israel Katz, who had previously served as foreign minister.
The Times of Israel stated that Netanyahu and Gallant had clashed several times during their time in ministry.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confessed for the first time that Israel was responsible for the strikes on Hezbollah’s pagers and walkie-talkies, which killed at least 39 people and injured over 3,000, according to The Times of Israel. Following the strike, numerous media sites alleged that it was a very sophisticated Israeli intelligence operation that had been planned for years, with Hezbollah duped into purchasing the hacked devices. Following the explosions, Israel launched a series of airstrikes that destroyed much of Hezbollah’s command structure, including Nasrallah, and is conducting a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon to eliminate the terror group’s immediate threats to Israel’s northern border communities.
