Tinubu tells China: Increase $50 billion aid package for Africa; increase $2 billion currency swap with Nigeria. Olalekan Adigun authored this work. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested that China extend its $50 billion aid package for Africa and broaden the $2 billion currency swap deal between Nigeria and China. This will strengthen bilateral trade and speed infrastructure development. The President’s appeal came during negotiations with China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, who was in Nigeria to strengthen bilateral ties. Tinubu also wants to increase the $2 billion currency swap arrangement between Nigeria and China.
Tinubu was reported in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, as saying, “I am delighted you are a member of China’s highest decision-making body. We want you to use your position to help enhance project funding. First, I agree to the $50 billion support and thank you for helping to African progress. Africa’s infrastructure demands are bigger, and we want to proceed at the same rate as our rivals. Everyone shares your vision of rapid progress. Africa appreciates its connection with China, and we seek stronger engagement on infrastructure development.” “We continue to want more in the field of currency swaps. The level you have approved as a government in Nigeria is inadequate considering our programme. If you can increase that, it will be well appreciated.
