The Washington Post scrapped plans to run a front-and back-page commercial that would have earned the paper $115,000 — and ran straight into more wrath. The ad, apparently funded by the watchdog group Common Cause, asked that President Donald Trump remove Elon Musk, who is working as a special government employee attempting to decrease spending, and purge federal government staff.
Many Washingtonians and political experts are now outraged with the newspaper, which was purchased by Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos in 2013. It follows previous uproar after Bezos stated the newspaper will break with historical precedent by not endorsing a political candidate last year.
Marc Elias, a democracy fig
hter and elections lawyer, pointed out that in October, the tabloid featured an ad from a right-wing party sponsored by Musk that targeted Elias personally for his work.
