Manchester United has had a dismal first half of the Premier League season. The Red Devils have lost six of their 15 games. They are eight points behind of the final Champions League position held by Manchester City.
United manager Ruben Amorim could be given a minimal budget to spend in January. The hierarchy may attempt to raise additional revenue through player sales.
According to Sky Germany writer Florian Plettenberg, United are eager to split ways with Christian Eriksen if a suitable offer is offered in January. Eriksen could leave this winter following Amorim’s snub. Under former boss Erik ten Hag, the Danish international made a promising start to the season. Eriksen became a regular starter after Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount were injured. He had four goals and three assists in his first 13 games. Eriksen was named to Amorim’s starting lineup in his first game as manager, but he has yet to play a minute since. He has been an unused replacement in the last four games.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has praised the Dane as ‘world-class’, and he is excellent at creating and scoring goals, but he is past his prime. Eriksen has failed to maintain midfield control in numerous games. His poor mobility is another source of concern. Amorim like strong midfielders with the ability to control the game. Eriksen will most likely be let go next month. The midfielder’s contract will expire at the end of the season. United may be willing to accept a modest compensation. They could also save some of his £150,000 weekly salary for a new signing.
