Zelensky criticizes Hungarian PM Orban for politicizing Ukraine’s EU aspirations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky severely denounced Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, accusing him of involving Ukraine in domestic Hungarian election concerns and participating in “very dangerous activities.” In response to Orban’s remarks against Ukraine’s EU membership, Zelensky cited an opposition poll in Hungary that revealed “70% support Ukraine joining the EU”. Zelensky believes Orban’s efforts are motivated by involving Ukraine in Hungary’s internal political turmoil ahead of the 2026 elections. “Just do not pull us into your elections. He (Orban) accomplishes this by isolating us in the EU. In the end, this method will fail. Why? “Because the people there support Ukraine,” Zelensky stated.

Zelensky also warned that Orban’s activities are “very dangerous” to the European Union, and Ukraine is warning its partners of this. “He may be opposed, but taking efforts to prevent our membership is not his right; it is the decision of another nation. “Just as we have no right to interfere with Hungary’s fate,” the Ukrainian President stated. It is worth noting that Viktor Orban has once again urged Hungarians to oppose Ukraine’s EU entry.
