Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina resigns, ending 15 years in power, as thousands protest

Bangladesh’s DHAKA Following thousands of demonstrators who invaded her official residence and disobeyed a military curfew, Bangladesh’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, resigned on Monday, marking her 15 years in office. The president’s advice on forming an interim government was to be sought, according to Bangladesh’s military head Gen. Waker-uz-Zaman, shortly after the beleaguered leader was seen by local media boarding a military chopper with her sister.Bangladesh’s military chief Gen. He promised that the military would stand down, and to launch an investigation into the deadly crackdowns that fueled outrage against the government, and asked citizens for time to restore peace.

“Keep faith in the military, we will investigate all the killings and punish the responsible,” he said. “I have ordered that no army and police will indulge in any kind of firing.”Bangladesh’s military chief Gen.
