August 30 (THEWILL) The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced plans to hire reputed and trustworthy operations and maintenance (O&M) firms to manage the operations of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC). This was disclosed on Thursday via the company’s official X Twitter. The Warri Refinery, located in Warri, Delta State, was commissioned in 1978. It is a complex conversion refinery with a nameplate distillation capacity of 6,250,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTA), or 125,000 barrels per day.

The refinery complex comprises a petrochemical facility that began operations in 1988 and has a manufacturing capacity of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black. The Warri refinery is well-positioned to supply petroleum products to Nigeria’s southern and southwestern areas. The Kaduna Refinery, for its part, was commissioned in 1980 to meet Northern Nigeria’s petroleum needs, with an initial capacity of 50,000 bpd. In 1983, the capacity was increased to 100,000 bpd by installing a second 50,000 bpd crude train for the production of lubricating oils. Additional extensions in 1986 raised the capacity of the first crude train to 60,000 bpd, bringing the refinery’s total nameplate capacity to 110,000 bpd.
