Will Putin be Arrested in Mongolia?

The Kremlin has rejected concerns that Mongolia will arrest President Vladimir Putin during his visit on September 3. This worry stems from Mongolia’s involvement in the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has issued an arrest warrant for Putin in connection with the suspected transfer of children from Russian-occupied Ukraine.

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokeswoman, stated that there are no concerns regarding the visit, citing Russia and Mongolia’s good dialogue.

Mongolia accepted the International Criminal Court’s Rome Statute in December 2000, which requires member states to comply with ICC arrest requests. However, Moscow has dismissed the warrant, and despite Putin’s drastically curtailed foreign travel since the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, he has yet to visit any ICC member states.
